Commisioning:-
Commisioning the video is naturaly done by a video commissioner who is employed by the record company of the artist. The commissioner will create a brief of what he plans for the video, the budget, a director, a deadline and other bits of information. He then sends it and the track to one or more directors either straight to them or though production companies. The commisioner after finding a director will then decide whether what the director comes up with is releaseable.
Planning:-
The director plans the video and does so by looking at previous videos from the artist, listening to the track and looking at the lyrics he then comes up with a rough proposal. This could be the beginning of a script or animatic storyboard which gives a general idea of the video. He then sends this to the client, has a meeting with the commissioner/record company and then the treatment is either altered or agrred upon. Only after this will the produce a detailed budget.
