James - The Process Of Making A Music Video

Budgeting:
The producer puts together a budget which is then approved by the head of production. This budget is then given to the client who may wish to reduce or increase it depending on their available funds. Once the budget has been agreed the director and producer put together the main team of creative staff.

In recent years the amount of money available has reduced, and companies are becoming increasingly involved due to fear that the director will make a mistake. For example at Sony six different people at different levels of the company have to approve the plans before the green-light is given.

Shooting:
The shoot is usually prepared over five days and then only takes one or two to complete. The job of the director is to make the shoot look as good as possible for the money that is being spent. Costs are often very high, especially when there are lots of extras/dancers who have to be paid their daly fee on top of all their expenses.
