Responding to a track - JCutts

  • In response to our track selection; Plan B - The Recluse of his latest album 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks' . This album is a turn on Plan B's past albums which have consisted of UK Grime in order to tackle darker issues, however this album tells a story of a ficitonal charecter , namely 'Strickland Banks' who finds himself in prison after being falsely convicted of a crime. The album gives a song by song insight into his nightmare in the cells, and the track we chose specifically tells people of the struggle of Stricklands time in prison as his time as 'A recluse'.

  • Plan B exploring a more soulful approach but keeping his hiphop styled side as well. His video's he has already produced show a more high budget production. We can tell this by the numerous locations used inside the 'prison' and the choreography is very accurate. There are also varioues dance routine syncronised into the scenes which means that the actors used in the video would be multi skilled. This leaves us with a slight problem , as we will be working on a lower budget. However we feel if we are able to get around this factor and pull it off it will be worthwhile. With All three of us already coming up with idea's and inspiration we feel we can over come this factor.

  • This style of music and the video's attaching with album is very unique , so with that in mind we have been looking closely at Plan B - Playin' . This is set in a prison and is the closest we feel to our track . We feel in order to keep this unique styled video we will have to use some of the basic structures of this video, however we will add in our own ideas and effects to hopefully give a high quality music video.

  • We will have to include aspects of both performance and concept based , the majority of the video will have to shot in a 'prison- like' set as that is what the song is about. We will have to illustrate that the main charecter is seen as ''the recluse'' in prison and with the help of lightning, mise en scene etc to emphisise this. We will also need to incorporate some sort dance routines into some of the scenes such as a fight scene.

  • We have had a few discussions about locations and have a few in mind , in order for us to get a 'prison look' we have tyhought about things such as toilets, changing rooms, showers. Obviously this will require us to get consent to film in those area's. We are also looking at a pub or jazz club type location for the performance based part of the song.

  • We need to use a main lead who will have big stage presents and be very defiant. There will the majority of the shots on him and therefore they need ot be confident, realstic and able to lip sync.

  • We will use very few special effects however an important factor will be the grain and contrast of the shot. We will need to take very special care of the lighting and where we position on set in order to perfect shots and give of the intended message.

  • We are considering using a group of people who can be used to choregraph some syncronised dance moves, typical of a Plan B video, we will also need a few extra's to look realstic to the prison enviroment
